Fight Night: Lavar vs Trump

President Donald Trump recently tweeted that “he should have left them in jail” referring to LiAngelo Ball and two other UCLA players found stealing from multiple stores in China. This was in response to Ball’s father saying “who?” when asked about Trump’s assistance to bring his son back to the U.S.

In a recent televised interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, Lavar said he would not thank Trump, he claims, “It wasn’t like he was in the US and said, ‘OK, there’s three kids in China. I need to go over and get them.’ That wasn’t the thought process.” Regardless, Trump says he did mention something to the Chinese President, so why not just take him at his word? Regardless of his occasional unpresidential actions, he is still the president of the United States.

Ball, however, believes his sons would have been fine either way, and did thank Chinese President Xi. He also mentioned that if he did help he shouldn’t have asked for a thank you. And honestly?

He’s right.

The truth is Trump is acting very unpresidential with his bombardment of tweets about an incident that should be the last thing on a president’s mind. However, for Lavar, that should be outside the point. If someone wants a ‘thank you’, why not just give it to him?

Trump is clearly being extremely petty and seems to only care about this issue for the media exposure. The only reason he even helped the kids in the first place was probably just to appear better to the public. Trump should focus on his political affairs and let Lavar take care of his boys. The fact that the president of the free world needs to be humored is just sad.

In this epic battle of America’s biggest egos, I doubt anyone will let up anytime soon with Trump calling Lavar Ball an “ungrateful fool”, and Lavar sending Trump a pair of his son’s basketball shoes to “calm him down”.

Lavar should just say thank you, and Trump should mind his business. Will either of them let up? Not a chance.

This is what we have come to expect from both of them, and despite how sad it is we’re talking about the president, it sure makes for one entertaining fight.

  1. Maybe they are setting up a post-presidential reality TV show? A lot of people would pay a lot of money to see the two of them in the same room together.
