A letter from Principal Michael Susi on being recognized as a Blue Ribbon institution:
Humble, proud, excited and honored are just a few of the emotions that I have felt since the Secretary of Education announced East Lyme High School as one of the BEST schools in the United States. I am not sure if the average person knows the significance of earning the status of a National Blue Ribbon recognition, so let me break it down. There are currently over 100,000 high schools in the country, and we are identified by the federal government as one of fifty high schools to receive this distinction.
The United States Department of Education divides those fifty schools into two groups: one for high performance and one for closing the achievement gap, which means we are in the top 25 high performing schools in the country. In my mind, that is the high school equivalent of being one of the top Ivy League Colleges.
I am thrilled for our faculty, staff, students, parents and the East Lyme Community. I can think of no higher honor, and I am grateful to be part of this team.
